Do I need to make my own way to the festival?
Yes, everyone is required to arrange their own travel to and from the festival site. Unfortunately, as we are a non-profit we are unable to reimburse people for their travel expenses.
How many shifts do I need to do?
Our volunteers are required to do 3x8hr shifts over the camping festivals.
Will I have meals provided?
Meals, teas and coffees are provided whilst on shift, when not working you will be required to provide your own meals.
Do I need to buy my own ticket?
No. Your festival entrance will be provided by Safer Spaces Now CIC.
Do I need any specific qualifications?
No you do not need any particular qualifications. Our team is made up of industry leads, safeguarding, health, care professionals, as well as people who join us from lived experience and are just passionate about the cause. You will not be asked or required to do anything you are not qualified to do and the leadership team are always there to help if you have any concerns or questions.
Who can I talk to if I have any concerns?
You can reach out to your contact within Safer Spaces Now CIC directly or via phone and email or to our main email info@saferspaces.co.uk
Will there be lots of walking?
Yes! Given the nature of a festival site there is plenty of walking at all the events, we advise you to bring comfortable shoes and be ready to get your steps in.
Can I still volunteer if I have accessibility needs?
Should you have any accessibility needs, we ask that you please let us know as soon as you sign up to an event. This way we can make sure the appropriate support is in place to enable you to be on site comfortably.
Will there be showers?
Yes! We camp either in staff campsites or our own Safer Spaces campsite, meaning we always have access to showers, thankfully.
What do I need to bring with me for my shift?
Depending on the time of day and weather, we advise you to bring appropriate layers to add or remove as needed, suncream, water bottle, any medicines you need, sunglasses and hats. Uniform tops will be given to you at the start of the shift which is then handed back at the end of each shift. This is just to ensure uniform doesn’t get lost and most importantly that you are not approached for help when on your own or off sift without a radio.
What if I can no longer make the event I signed up for?
If you can no longer make it to an event that you had signed up for, we ask that you let us know straight away. Doing so enables us to fill your spot on the team and ensures we don’t turn up understaffed and unable to help people that need us.
What does volunteering with Safer Spaces look like?
Volunteers are a crucial part of our team and are the friendly welcoming face of the service. You will be working in our front of house glam and chill out tent, chatting to the public about why we are there, safety plans, keeping the space tidy and generally bringing the good vibes. You will also be doing outreach, where small groups of the team walk the festival site and interact with public about consent messaging etc and also identify those who may need support.
How do I find where I am camping?
The campsite information will be sent out and shared just before the event goes live. This is not by choice but unfortunately the last-minute nature of events means we only find out this info then. Once the management team are onsite, we are able to drop exact locations in the comms, as well as have our volunteer champions on site to welcome the team.
